Opera v Play - A HUGE Difference
So the Opera turned out being a little different from expected. Totally different. It was actually a French Play :-) I mean it was still fantastic but there is a HUGE difference between music in another language and a classic French play with long verbal sections.
The Difference? In the latter there is the potential to have NO idea what is actually happening. Add to this the fact that there were random things happening throughout the performance i.e. a man coming out in the middle of the scene screaming RAH like a lion.... and it was pretty confusing.
It was a group of four of us that attended, with Chris from NZ and I desperately trying to put the peices of plot together at the end of the performance.
It was a good night, a huge cultural thing, and a pretty interesting experience all up... but probably the last time I attend a play in another language to be honest.

Ah Mazzy, I sympathize with you...The nerve of those natives to demand that entertainment be provided in their own language!Really!
LOL...
THE TOTAL NERVE!!
What were they thinking :-)
To be honest, it was probably a sign for me to concentrate on learning French, one of the main reasons I wanted to come here...
FRENCH FOCUS IS BACK!!!
I thought that the opera was great. As you said, I didn't understand a word but thought it was really well put together. It seemed to have been choreographed well, although some of the acting was a teeny weeny little bit sloppy at times. Overall though it was a fun night I thought. You're right, when there is virtually no music, you have no idea what is happening (I thought that the mother of the daughter was actually a rival to the daughter - who I thought was a maid anyway)... I'm confusing myself even :)
Yeah I thought it was an awesome play, really well done. And amusing even though I also got confused in parts about who was who and what was actually happening.
It was a wonderful experience to have, and made me really think about the effort that went into the performances.
But I would love to see an actual Opera... I have an unsatiated desire now to watch one :-)
