The Buzz...
Don't you just love the feeling when you do something out of your comfort zone...
Something that excites you, that scares you, that makes you anxious...
Something that at the start you think 'sure' but seconds before want to run out of the room for...
Something that once you have done it, and done it well - the buzz can last for weeks.
For me, tonight I took such a challenge.
It all started a two weeks ago when I got a phone call:
"Mazzy, would you be interested in facilitating a discussion on Avian Flu - for the Global European Business Continuity Meeting?"
My response: sure thing. I know nothing about bird flu but I DO know about facilitation - and that I love it. So sounds good to me.
Following this came a few different discussions with the Global Manager of BU Europe and a person from his MT.
"We heard that you are unorthodox - and that is what we are looking for. We want it to be engaging, and memorable"...
O..... K..... NO PRESSURE!
So I said yes.
Today on my way to the Castle where it was being held (yes these are the perks of a global bank) I started to have my doubts.
For me, let's face it - if you know me you can I imagine what I was thinking:
HOW DID I END UP HERE IN THE SITUATION WHERE I AM GOING TO FACILITATE A DISCUSSION ABOUT MANAGING THE BIRD FLU PANDEMIC AT ABN AMRO, FOR A GROUP OF SENIOR BUSINESS MANAGERS IN A GLOBAL BANK?
It is not Kansas anymore, Totto.
But after the pre-hesitation and urge to rethink I focused.
Hey Maz, this is something you WANT to do, indeed LOVE DOING.
Dissipated. My anxiety was dissipated leaving me to breathe again what I love - Facilitating, training, being on the stage, connecting people and ideas.
It went AWESOMELY.
I was also invited to facilitate in London and Uzbekistan which was a random bonus.
But the most amazing thing is that I feel soooo good. This is what I love to do....
I must seek opportunities to live this every day.
EVERY DAY!

I love how you were described as "unorthodox"... such a great comment which is actually a great compliment (I mean who wants to be orthodox in the business world?)
Well done!
you rock my world maz
keep on being fabulous
hey Maz,
that there has to be the strangest story I have heard all day... I still remember the days of tickle me elmo...
cheers
W
Dan babe... I TOTALLY AGREE... unorthodox was the best compliment I could ever get!
Holly hon... DITTO!
Westy: Tickle me Elmo is still such a source of motivation!!
Hugs Maz
"I've heard your unorthodox" ... was this related to your penchant for wearing thongs in the middle of winter? Or your chicken wing boomerangs?
Great to hear you are going well.
Awesome story! Congratulations. Hope they'll find lots more occasions to look for an "unorthodox" facillitator for an event.
Bretto,
They have not heard about the chicken wings yet!!!
And NO CONFESSIONS from me :-)
Simi hon, thanks. Me too!
Are you coming back to Europe during the summer?
actually I will. Jan and I are getting married in Germany in August. My mom didn't consider Las Vegas an apropriate wedding celebration for the family... (well, I'm her only girl, three more brothers) So I'll be in Germany from August 12th - September 3rd.
Ahhh wonderful hon!!!
An official wedding - sounds great!
Try and drop in Ammy if you can!
hugs Maz xx
